HbA1c blood test in Telford
An HbA1c test gives a longer view of your blood sugar, taken from a small finger prick sample in the pharmacy. No GP referral, no fasting, and the team will talk you through your result before you leave.
What is an HbA1c test
Blood testing at Hollinswood
HbA1c measures your average blood sugar level over the previous two to three months, rather than just a single moment in time. It works by looking at how much glucose has attached to the haemoglobin in your red blood cells. It is one of the main markers used when looking at prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, and for keeping track of blood sugar over time.
Who is the test for?
It may be worth considering if you have a family history of diabetes, want to keep an eye on your longer term blood sugar, or have been told it is something to watch. If you are already managing a diagnosed condition, it is a useful way to check in between GP appointments. It is not a replacement for care from your GP, and any concerns about your results are best discussed with them.
How it works
- Pop in or book ahead by phone.
- We take a small sample from your fingertip. It takes a couple of minutes.
- You get your result and a chat with the team about what it shows and any sensible next steps.
